BAM have been appointed to develop the 279 Acre site at Elstree for Sky Studios for film and presentation studios. As yet another significant new investment in the UK, the backing by Sky's owner Comcast in partnership with NBCUniversal and with funding from Legal & General will provide a boost at a crucial time.
As part of the £192m contract BAM will construct large sound stages, production offices and develop the site with a view to it being operational by 2022.
The design by UMC Architects will feature a grand entrance with visual marketing.
With the target of zero reliance on fossil fuels, 20% of the onsite energy production will be through solar energy.
The site has been carefully considered with the Sound Stages occupying the perimeter of the site, enabling the central circulation road for crew, props and sets.
The Sound Stages will be used for the production of theatrical film making and television productions. Whilst there will only be limited post production carried out on site, six of the buildings are designed with Production Office Buildings.
